Laylat al-Qadr and the Significance of the 27 night of Ramadan
Laylat al-Qadr, also known as the Night of Decree, is one of the most sacred nights in Islam. In Morocco it holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims because of its great spiritual value and immense rewards. This blessed night occurs during the last ten nights of Ramadan, a time when Muslims increase their acts of worship and seek closeness to Allah. At ILCS Rabat we try to celebrate with our families
Laylat al-Qadr is mentioned in the Qur’an in Surah Al-Qadr, where Allah says: “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.” This shows the greatness of this night, as acts of worship performed during it are more rewarding than those of many years.
Although the exact date of Laylat al-Qadr is not known, it is believed to fall on one of the odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadan: the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th night. Many scholars believe that the 27th night is the most likely, based on different interpretations and traditions. For this reason, Muslims give special importance to this night and increase their prayers and supplications.
During Laylat al-Qadr, it is believed that angels descend to the earth, and peace and mercy spread until dawn. It is a special opportunity for believers to seek forgiveness, make sincere prayers, and strengthen their faith.
Muslims, including the Morocccan ones, are encouraged to spend this night in prayers, reading the Qur’an, making dua, and asking for forgiveness. One of the most recommended supplications is:
“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
Laylat al-Qadr, especially the 27th night, is believed to be a valuable opportunity to renew one’s faith, erase past sins, and start a new spiritual journey. Therefore, every Muslim should try to make the most of these blessed nights and not miss their great rewards.
